30 years of SICK distance sensor glory

June 03, 2023

2019 marks the 30th anniversary of SICK's epoch-making laser distance sensor. Globally, there are already more than 1 million products, serving all walks of life.

These include triangulation laser displacement sensors for precision measurements, ultrasonic distance sensors and extremely fast time-of-flight (TOF) distance sensors.

1989

DME2000

The world's first industrial-grade time-of-flight laser ranging sensor was released, which kicked off the success of the next 30 years.

DX35

Following the great success of the mid-range DX50 product series released in 2008, the world's smallest TOF distance sensor DX35 series based on 2nd generation HDDM technology was released in 2012. This series has excellent performance and has quickly become a star in the market due to its extremely high cost performance.

DL100Pro

As the market and technology leader for long-range distance sensors, SICK has launched a new generation of DL100Pro series sensors. As a successful continuation and successor of the DME series, the DL100Pro has become the 300-meter-class product with the smallest volume, the highest precision, and the fastest speed. And it is widely used in measurement and positioning with extremely high cost performance and stability.

2016

DX1000

The first ultra-long-distance sensor DX1000 series designed for outdoor and high-temperature object measurement applications was released in 2016. Using the latest generation of HDDM+ technology and up to 8 times of multiple echo technology, in a very small volume, it can achieve a distance of 1500 meters and a repeatability of millimeters. Perfectly cope with the influence of complex outdoor environmental factors and thermal radiation of high-temperature objects. Widely used in transportation, port and steel industries.

OD5000

As the successor of the OD5 series, a new generation of ultra-high precision displacement sensors is released. Freed from the shackles of the controller, the measurement head integrates all algorithms and high-speed Ethernet interface to achieve a measurement frequency up to 80KHz. The built-in Web server can realize the debugging of complex applications conveniently and quickly without any debugging software. AOD1 controller can also be selected to realize double-head cooperation, networking and access to IO-Link or Profinet, EtherCAT and other industrial Ethernets.
